Flights

The MPS expect MPS personnel to travel by the most economical means possible that is compatible with the requirements of the deployment. MPS Travel Services book the cheapest available travel at the time of booking.  All international flights are required to be authorised by NPCC rank officers and UK flights by OCU Commanders. The majority of officers flying First/Business Classare protection officers who are accompanying their principal.  Business Classtravel can be authorised by NPCC officers for flights in excess of 6 hours.

The increase in flight costs 2015-2017 is a function of a increase in the number of principals which the MPS is required to provide protection for, with a 20% increase in the last 2 years.  The flight authorisation policy in respect of protection officers was reviewed during 2017 to minimise these costs.

Hotel

Hotel costs are indicative spends as provided by the Travel Provider.  MPS Travel Services do not hold the actual costs incurred as the hotels operate a policy of payment on departure (PoD) by the individual who used the hotel premises.  MPS personnel reclaim the expenses incurred by submitting claims for reimbursement to their own OCU.  The HR policy for hotel accommodation rates in London is defined as anywhere in the Met area, and is up to £120 maximum per night. For outside the Met area, the limit is £80 maximum per night.
