The Mayor

In 2016-17 over 87,000 trees were planted by TfL, GLA funded tree planting and regeneration projects and by organisations in the London Tree Partnership.  I made an additional £750,000 available for tree planting in my first year of office despite inheriting no budget from the previous Mayor for tree-planting.

In 2017-18, I have provided funding to supported the planting of over 25,000 trees by local communities this winter, through my Community Tree Planting Grants and free Tree Packs. In addition, partners in the London Tree Partnership are planting thousands more trees this season. We do not yet have the data for trees planted this season by TfL or by organisations in the London Tree Partnership.

The table below outlines the borough breakdown for trees planted through:

  • the Mayor’s grant funding during the 2016/17 planting season
  • the first round of the Greener City Fund community tree planting grants
  • free Tree Packs

The locations of where trees have been planted, and are being planted this season are available on our Greener City map on the GLA website https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/environment/parks-green-spaces-and-...

The GLA hasn’t previously held data relating to the detailed locations of trees planted by TfL or our key partners.  We have started to explore how we could readily establish this data and will add this to the tree map on the GLA website.
