A strategy has been implemented to review each of the new 2017 rateable values with a view to challenging these where evidence exists to support a reduction in rates liability.

The Metropolitan Police Service currently has 355 buildings upon which it has a rating liability.

The total rates bill prior to the revaluation was £32.9m; post revaluation, for 2017/18 it is expected to be £38.5m.  Of the 73 buildings with front counters which have a rating liability the total rates bill prior to the revaluation was £11.4m; post revaluation, for 2017/18 it is expected to be £14.1m.
