Moped crime is a significant concern and the Met are working hard to crack this issue in Islington. Through Operation Attrition, officers from Islington, Camden and the City of London are working together to implement intelligence led tactics in their local crime hotspots. Officers are patrolling daily in cars and motorcycles, supported by a team of detectives conducting overt and covert investigation. London wide activity – including Operation Venice and the Be Safe campaign – are also helping to build intelligence, identify and arrest offenders and support the public to better protect themselves.

The Met are running a series of tactics, including:

  • Making owners aware of what they can do about reducing the thefts

  • Working with industry and council to protect or design the theft of the vehicles

  • Concentrated taskings around high crime areas

  • Public engagement in assisting with reporting via social media

  • Engagement with 2nd hand phone shops, markets, moped dealers, garages to improve intelligence and remove locations that will buy the stolen property
