Question

Can you explain how TfL came to a decision on the two options of where to locate the shaft between Elephant & Castle and Old Kent Road Stations? I know a number of constituents have concerns over the locations and wonder why other locations were not put forward for consultation.

TfL considered a number of site options for the shaft between Elephant & Castle and Old Kent Road Stations.  The rationale for taking forward the two options that were consulted upon is set out in The Background to Consultation Report, available at: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/tube/bakerloo-extension-2014/user_uploads/bakerloo-line-extension---background-to-consultation.pdf

The Background to Consultation also sets out why others sites were not selected, the reasons for which varied from construction challenges to impacts on the surrounding area.

Now that the public consultation has completed, TfL is assessing the responses and will begin developing proposals for Elephant & Castle station. Consideration of the shaft site proposals, their route corridors and the public consultation responses on them will be an important part of this next stage of work.
