I continue to support local no-idling initiatives delivered by the London boroughs, in known poor air quality hotspots, as part of my £20m Air Quality Fund. At least 24 very successful Idling Engine Action Days have been held in the past year. In addition, the Low Emission Neighbourhood scheme in the City of London, funded by my air quality fund, proposes to create no-idling zones where stationary vehicles must turn off their engines. TfL has previously carried out information campaigns aimed at reducing engine idling by drivers in London.

Where specific concerns have been raised with TfL, its compliance officers work closely with the relevant local authorities. This includes attending locations in conjunction with local authority officers and engaging with drivers to encourage them to switch their engines off.
