TfL has identified a number of options to improve cross-river rail connectivity in the Thamesmead area, including a potential DLR extension from Gallions Reach and a possible further extension of the London Overground from Barking Riverside.

TfL is currently undertaking early design and feasibility work to determine the engineering feasibility, the costs and the environmental impacts of these options. This includes transport modelling to understand the benefits for public transport users, and impacts on the wider transport network. TfL and the GLA are also working with the boroughs to consider how these options could support planned growth in the Thamesmead and Abbey Wood Opportunity Area.

The outcomes of TfL's initial work will be shared as part of the public consultation for the Thamesmead and Abbey Wood Opportunity Area Planning Framework, anticipated to take place at the end of the year.
