Question

In your response to my question 2017/2079 you said that Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) will start to be phased into new vehicles joining the bus fleet in 2018. However, this potentially life-saving technology was originally due to become mandatory on all buses entering service from 2017. Please explain the delay?

There has been no delay to introducing Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) and I apologise for any confusion.

TfL has already carried out trials for the implementation of ISA and will be publishing the results of those trials in the near future. ISA will then begin to be introduced on buses later this year, as originally announced.

ISA forms one part of the new Bus Safety Standard, and TfL expects the first newly-manufactured bus which fully meets the Bus Safety Standard to enter service in 2018.
