In your letter to Borough Leaders announcing the establishment of the Night Time Economy Champions Network, you list the areas of expertise you would like to hear from - including planning, regeneration, licensing and culture. Given the link between alcohol/drugs and violent crime, should not one of the criteria of expertise have been community safety?

The first meeting of the Night Time Economy Champions Network took place on Monday 13 March at City Hall. It was attended by 36 councillors and officers from across 21 boroughs.

A number of members of the Network have direct responsibility for community safety including the Community Safety and Crime Manager from London Borough of Camden and Assistant Director Public Protection from the City of London Corporation. A number of licensing officers also attend the Network who have to take into account licensing objectives - the prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance, and the protection of children from harm - when carrying out a local authority's licensing functions.
