It has been brought to my attention that in some parts of my constituency where bus drivers change (Wimbledon Park Road, Queenstown Road & Ashvale Road) diesel-fuelled engines are left idling causing noise and air pollution. Would it be possible to move the bus stands to mitigate the effect on residents?

Bus drivers are instructed to turn off the engine at route terminals, as set out in the bus drivers' "Big Red Book" manual and on posters at garages. This applies at Ashvale Road. At changeover points, including Wimbledon Park Road and Queenstown Road, buses should not be pausing any longer than is necessary to perform the changeover.

I have asked TfL to conduct random checks at some of these locations to help ensure bus drivers are switching off engines when they are supposed to.
