My Skills for Londoners task force will have the responsibility for setting the strategic direction for future GLA apprenticeship interventions including; encouraging smaller, non-levy paying employers to recruit apprentices and ensuring the reformed apprenticeship system delivers the types of apprenticeships that London's economy requires.

I consider that the wider apprenticeship system reforms, including measures such as the mandatory minimum one year duration of apprenticeships, the move to employer led apprenticeship standards and the introduction of the Institute for Apprenticeships should dramatically improve the quality of apprenticeships.

Finally, I continue to lobby central government for the unspent levy raised by London's employers to be ring-fenced for the benefit of London.  Furthermore I am asking for a proportion of this funding to be devolved to London government to be used for wider apprenticeship creation / promotion interventions.
