Owing to limitations with the MPS Command and Control IT systems, it was not possible to capture this level of data by mode of vehicle. It is not, therefore possible to accurately report individual pursuit termination data for the previous three years.

However, reporting systems were improved in 2016 to enable capture of all pursuits by mode, and the total numbers of pursuits authorised or refused.

Between January 2016 and December 2016 a total of 1299 pursuit related incidents were recorded.

       Of these, 749 were not authorised to continue beyond the initial phase.

       Of the total pursuit related incidents (1299), 363 have the subject vehicle recorded as a motorcycle.  With 264 recorded as being discontinued following authorisation, 118 of which are due to disproportionate risk being posed to other drivers, rider or the public.
