The Silvertown Tunnel will address the significant issues of traffic congestion and unreliability at the Blackwall Tunnel and will lead to an overall improvement in air quality.

The scheme will support growth in the key opportunity areas north and south of the river and enable a step change in the quality and quantity of cross river bus services in east and south-east London, with a forecast frequency of a bus every two minutes in each direction running through the new tunnel.

In respect of air quality in Canning Town, there are a number of air quality receptors in the area and the change in air quality at the vast majority of these is negligible.
