We need a variety of different infrastructure solutions to support the uptake of electric vehicles in London. I am committed to working with the private sector to secure the reliability and accessibility of our current infrastructure and to expand the network in the future.

There are currently more than 2,000 electric vehicle charge points in London. The two largest public charge point networks, Source London (BluePointLondon) and POLAR (Chargemaster) have network availability rates of more than 92 per cent and 99 per cent respectively.

I am working with London Councils and the boroughs to invest £13m through the Go Ultra Low City Scheme to create a new delivery model that will unlock a further 2,000 new charge points across London for residents, businesses and car club operators.

This will be complemented by a new rapid charging network that will cater for the quick charging needs of commercial vehicles, such as taxis. The first of these rapid charge points will be available in 2017.
