The horrific murders of four young men committed by Stephen Port have rightly led to a number of questions being asked about the original police response.  I have raised this with the Commissioner and I am assured he takes this very seriously.

The MPS has admitted there were missed opportunities to catch Stephen Port and apologised to the families.  The MPS voluntarily referred themselves to the IPCC, whose investigation will examine whether discrimination played any part in the original police investigations.

The MPS continues to work closely with the LGBT community, partners from Galop, the LGBT IAG, and other organisations have been instrumental in developing the police response.  MQ 4518 includes more detail.

The MPS has provided additional training to its front line officers and specialist investigators on drug assisted rape and Chemsex related offences.  In addition, a pilot study to better understand the scale of the use of drugs assisted sexual assaults has also commenced.

If the IPCC highlights additional areas of learning for the MPS, it will be course review those and respond accordingly.
