It was recently announced that TfL will look at providing a bespoke cycle-bus which will carry cyclists and their bikes through the proposed new Silvertown road tunnel on a turn-up and go basis.  Irrespective of whether the new Silvertown tunnel is built will you ensure similar facilities for cyclists are immediately considered for the Blackwall and Rotherhithe tunnels?

Following my recent review of river crossings, TfL is doing further work to look at the feasibility of a new cycle-shuttle service as part of the Silvertown Tunnel scheme.

The study will assess whether the best option would be for the shuttle to go via the Blackwall Tunnel or the Silvertown Tunnel and suitable hours of operation.

It is proposed that the shuttle would be trialled, with a view to operating it permanently if there is sufficient demand. We could then consider whether this type of service could be provided at other locations.

At the same time, TfL is also progressing plans for a cycling and walking bridge between Rotherhithe and Canary Wharf.
