TfL announced in March 2016 that as part of its new Bus Safety Standard, a programme to reduce road danger through bus design, all new buses would have Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) fitted from 2017. I am committed to this programme of improving bus safety and have stressed the role of vehicle safety improvements in 'A City for all Londoners', under my Vision Zero approach to road safety. A further announcement on the next steps with the new Bus Safety Standard will be made in spring 2017. ISA is integral to my programme to improve the safety of buses on London's roads.

TfL is also creating a speed compliance monitoring system using iBus data, which will be used to challenge bus operators where speed compliance needs improving. This capability will give TfL the detailed information it needs to be able to ensure speed limits are adhered to, until improved speed compliance is achieved through the roll-out of ISA and the Bus Safety Standard.
