Will you, Mr Mayor, agree to incorporate the Caterham and Tattenham Corner lines in to your proposed takeover of the Southern Metro services, so that Croydon and other South London rail users can benefit from train services run by TfL?

Answer for Southern Metro Services

Customers on the Caterham and Tattenham Corner branches deserve reliable, high quality rail services just like everyone else.

Current Government plans will see these services forming part of the new cross-London Thameslink service from May 2018, after the works at London Bridge and elsewhere are completed, using new eight-car high capacity trains.

However, a new timetable consultation by Govia Thameslink Railway, the operator of both Southern and Thameslink, has recently proposed changes to the planned timetable, which would not see the Caterham and Tattenham Corner becoming part of Thameslink.

I will continue to monitor developments in this area carefully and, if these branches do not end up as part of Thameslink, will press for them to be transferred to London Overground in line with my wider proposals for greater devolution of inner suburban rail services.
