Question

A police officer from the Woodside Safer Neighbourhood Team in Haringey has set up an initiative, Operation Bodmin which tackles blue badge misuse in the borough. I accompanied officers in March this year and in that afternoon, three cars were seized and a number of misused blue badges were seized, as well as penalty notices being issued. Will you consider rolling-out Operation Bodmin to implement it across London? This seems like a really effective way for partners such as the MPS, TfL and local councils to tackle the misuse of blue badges.

Misuse of blue badges is absolutely unacceptable and I commend the Woodside Safer Neighbourhood Team for their initiative, professionalism and teamwork in tackling this problem in their area.

This kind of locally tailored approach embodies the kind of real neighbourhood policing we are working to build right across London, with visible local officers and PCSOs in touch with community concerns - in this example misuse of blue badges - working with partners to resolve them, and providing vital intelligence and learning to colleagues throughout the MPS.

It is for this very reason that I have recently announced there will now be two dedicated Police Constables for every London ward by the end of 2017.
