Answer for Met Police officers and staff retiring or resigning

Answered By:
The Mayor

Since January 2015 police officers have been prohibited from retiring or resigning whilst they were under investigation for an allegation of 'Gross Misconduct' unless there are exceptional circumstances.

There has been a total of 121 officers and 36 staff who have resigned or retired while they were subject to an arrest, summons, charge or criminal court proceeding.  The table below shows the number of officers resigning or retiring has reduced significantly since the change in legislation and practice.
