TfL is committed to developing ways to capture its waste heat and to enabling others such as boroughs to make use of this as they develop district heating schemes.

No schemes have yet been delivered, although TfL is working with the London Borough of Islington to utilise the waste heat from the Tube in the extension of their Bunhill district heating scheme. This scheme will be delivered in early 2017 and will allow Islington to connect 454 homes in the area, with the potential to supply a further 1,000 homes. The scheme will enable TfL and prospective district heating developers to understand how further schemes could be brought to market.
