Question

The proposal within the current Croydon Local Plan to de-designate Metropolitan Open Land (MOL) on either side of Shirley Oaks Road and all around Shirley Oaks Village for the purpose of house building will have a seriously deleterious impact on Shirley Ward. By degrading the protection of much loved Green Spaces, the Council is threatening the quality of life of my Shirley constituents. Will you assist in maintaining MOL status for this area?

Yes. Policy 7.17 of my London Plan strongly supports the current extent of Metropolitan Open Land (MOL), and affords it the strongest protection against development. My representations to Croydon on its revised Local Plan raised concern that the proposed changes to the MOL designation could have significant implications for local character and the amenity of the local residents of Shirley.
