The National Wildlife Crime Unit is funded by Defra, NI Office, NPCC, the Scottish Executive and the Home Office. I am supportive of the work of this unit and will review the nature of the decisions as they emerge.

In London, I am committed to working with the MPS to ensure they have in place adequate resources so they can continue with the positive work they undertake to protect animals from illegal wildlife trade and crime in London. The MPS is the only UK police force with a full time dedicated Wildlife Crime Unit.

The MPS continue to do excellent work to ensure proper enforcement of existing laws to protect wildlife, and the MOPAC fully recognises and values the important role of the MPS Wildlife Crime Unit. The Unit's work uncovering evidence linking wildlife crime to organised criminal gangs and the illegal trade in endangered species from all over the world is something the MPS should rightly be proud of.
