London households produce approximately 3m tonnes of waste per year, of which around 20% or 600,000 tonnes is food waste suitable for anaerobic digestion. In 2014/15 London local authorities separately collected around 340,00 tonnes of food and green garden waste diverted from landfill and incineration. Around 50,000 tonnes of this waste was sent to AD with the rest going for composting. Through LWARB's investment fund and Resource London programme I will continue to fund and support local authority food waste collection services to divert increasing amounts of food waste to good purposes and away from landfill.
