There are now a range of actions in progress to improve the situation, including the recruitment of additional staff and a new dedicated evening team to resolve the backlog.

MOPAC has seconded a senior member of staff to directly take control of the Disclosure and Barring Service. MOPAC is also continuing to work with the Home Office and MPS to find further ways to improve the speed of the process.

TfL has seconded a number of dedicated staff to the MPS to assist in clearing the backlog.

The MPS intervention plan anticipates that new applications will be completed within target time by March 2016. The current backlog has declined from almost 700 to around 300.

TfL has now also implemented temporary measures to allow drivers that applied for their DBS in good time to continue working where they are still waiting for the results of their criminal records checks.
