Question

Concerns have been raised that universities in London are going to struggle to recruit prospective students due to the cap on tuition fees being removed, maintenance grants being replaced with loans and the high cost of living in London. What action will you take to ensure that London universities continue to attract students, from London and elsewhere, to study in the Capital?

Many students choose to stay in the capital to start degrees and this reflects the quality and range of our higher education institutions. The loan system recognises some of the higher costs of living in London to ensure talented students can continue their studies. There is also an increasing number of higher level and degree apprenticeships. These will complement the traditional HE offer and provide a broader range of opportunities for London's young people to gain higher level skills and experience.
