I am supporting a number of activities proactively tackling food waste. These include:

       Through the London Waste and Recycle Board, Resource London will run a tailored Love Food Hate Waste campaign in London and work with London boroughs to increase food waste recycling.

       My demonstrator programme "FoodSave" supported small and medium business in the food sector to help them reduce food waste, divert from landfill and save money. The tools developed through the programme are now available to all food business in London at foodsave.org and the Sustainable Restaurant Association continues to provide SME's working in the food hospitality sector support on how to reduce based on the approach developed through "Foodsave".  It's been calculated that if 50% of the London food and drink sector achieved the same results as "Foodsave", 25,000 tonnes of food waste would be diverted from land per annum, saving businesses £96m annually.

        Social supermarket pilots will help to reduce the amount of food that goes to waste in London by selling safe and in-date food to Londoners on low incomes that may otherwise have gone to waste for a variety of reasons.
