With the population of London itself projected to continue to grow over coming decades it is clearly important that everyone in London has access to a healthy diet to enable London to continue to thrive.

London's food supply needs to be resilient and my food team works with regional, national and international partners across the sector to remain aware of evolving thinking on food security issues.

Although London cannot be self-sufficient in food growing, we work with partners continuously to assess the amount of food that could be grown in and around London. The London Plan highlights the importance of land for food growing in London, and there is an increasing amount of commercial food growing in London, such as by Growing Communities and by Organiclea in north and east London. The Capital Growth project grows on community food growing space covering nearly 300 acres.
