Offenders on bikes and, particularly, mopeds put themselves, the public and police officers at extreme risk.  Operation Venice is the MPS response to moped crime in general, and it also addresses cycle enabled theft.  That response is intelligence, prevention and enforcement orientated.

Through Operation Venice, local policing teams work with the Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC) to deliver a range of tactics for moped/bike enabled theft.

RTPC have developed tactics where, prior to a theft being committed, suspects are identified and stopped in a controlled manner, thus reducing the opportunity to make off. Suspects are then dealt with for all apparent offences.

Further tactics include proactive operations, micro-beat patrols, use of uniformed and plain clothes officers on bikes, and even issuing penalties to criminals cycling on the pavement.
