While all Network Rail projects are under review, work has already begun to deliver the Gospel Oak to Barking line electrification works, including vegetation removal and upgrade works to two bridges. Piling work along the route is due to begin this October and will continue through until next spring ahead of the next phase of infrastructure works.

TfL has placed an order for new, four car electric trains, which will double capacity from early 2018 following completion of the electrification project. The platform extensions which will enable this increase will be carried out during the electrification project to minimise both the cost and disruption for passengers.
