Question

Given that 78% of all individuals on the Met's Gangs Matrix are "Black", while only 12% are identified as white, the initiative is likely to have a disproportionate impact on the BME community. Has a comprehensive Equalities Impact Assessment been carried out for Operation Shield and will MOPAC make it public?

Shield is a multi-agency approach being tested to reduce violence.

An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) was undertaken for the London Crime Reduction Boards' Strategic Ambitions for London: Gangs And Serious Youth Violence. This can be found here www.london.gov.uk/priorities/policing-crime/our-work/gangs-and-serious-y...

The Strategic Ambitions outline the Mayor's overall ambitions to reduce the harm and impact caused by gangs and serious youth violence in the Capital. The Shield pilot is a Strategic Ambition project as it addresses prevention and enforcement, and aims to reduce victims of gun and knife crime. In developing and implementing Shield, the EIA was reviewed and considered to ensure that it was pertinent to Shield.
