TfL and the MPS have undertaken a review of the evidence base for policing impact on collisions in conjunction with an assessment of Operation Safeway. This review has found that static, high visibility intensive traffic enforcement is proven to work on improving road safety.

Operation Safeway has delivered a significant increase in the level of visible roadside enforcement - measured by the number of officers hours spent on static traffic enforcement compared to the same period last year. It has been effective in raising awareness of the rules of the road and consequences for breaking them as well as demonstrating a balanced and robust approach to road safety enforcement.
