Question

Thank you for your answer to my question 2015/2052, where you state "That consultation suggested that this may eventually include images". I have been through the consultation document and can find no reference to the use of images, or to facial recognition technology being applied. Can you either provide the reference, or undertake to run a further consultation that recognizes the huge new intrusion that this vast camera network represents?

The UK ANPR Network collects Patch Plate/Overview Imaging (PPOI) in compliance with published National Standards. TFL PPOI is the exception. TFL PPOI wasn't within project scope, however, the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) pointed towards this future possibility. Whilst this aspect is not articulated at length within the 2014 PIA, it has been the subject of significant dialogue between stakeholders where this future aspiration was made plain and supported. This was understood by stakeholders with the Liberty report on ANPR consultation April 2014 (para 3) specifically referencing the MPS making it clear of their future intention to obtain PPOI.
