What monitoring does Transport for London carry out to check if repeated passenger complaints about particular private hire drivers are leading to the company dropping those drivers? Do you think that the star rating system adopted by some private hire companies, which enables passengers to rate their driver is a helpful safeguard that you would encourage others to adopt?

As part of the licensing process all licensed operators are invited to inform TfL if they have had cause to dismiss a driver due to serious concerns so that the reasons for the dismissal can be investigated to determine whether licensing action is also required.

TfL has recently started a Private Hire Regulations Review and one of the many proposals being considered is for TfL to take a greater role in the oversight and management of private hire complaints which would lead to a better understanding of issues with drivers.

Of course, I welcome further initiatives from all licensed private hire operators to enhance the customer services offered to passengers. I am aware that some companies already do this.
