The Upstanding Neighbourhoods programme operates in the West Midlands and works on the basis of community members coming together to challenge extremist views and tackle radicalisation.

This initiative is entirely community-led, and while the police and other partners are involved in the project, a key element of its success is that they do not manage or drive it in any way.

Of course, I am always willing to learn from others' experience where applicable and would support any community in London that wanted to take the initiative to come together in this way to challenge extremism and radicalisation.

The newly formed London CONTEST Board has discussed this initiative and indeed other community initiatives with West Midlands and are looking to identify where a similar approach may be adopted for London.
