Answer for Legal Highs

Despite their legal status these drugs can cause significant harm to users so I support calls to give greater powers to law enforcement agencies to help reduce the use of these types of drugs and their associated harms. The Commissioner and I continue to support the Government in their work to do this.

The MPS and colleagues from the London Ambulance service have sought to raise awareness amongst young people of the dangers associated with Legal Highs including ahead of large events such as Notting Hill Carnival.

I continue to work with health and other agencies to ensure there is effective prevention and treatment to enable recovery for those in London who need it. To that end, MOPAC have allocated £6.8 million to local authorities in 2014/15 through the London Crime Prevention Fund to fund services working with drug misusing offenders.
