The evidence against expansion of Heathrow is overwhelming. The Airports Commission's own consultation material showed that whatever the assumptions selected, hundreds of thousands of people will continue to be exposed to noise by an expanded Heathrow airport. The noise, air quality and wider public health impacts of an expanded airport sited in the midst of a dense urban area are simply untenable. I trust that the Commission, based on its own evidence, will reach the same conclusion.

After the election, it will be for the incoming Government to evaluate all the evidence presented, of which the Commission's recommendations will be just one element, to determine the optimal outcome that meets the UK's economic and connectivity needs without compromising the health and quality of life of hundreds of thousands of Londoners. I will continue to make the case that this rules out any expansion of Heathrow airport.
