Question

I welcome the successful bid by Harrow Council for a big step up to deliver housing. Large scale development needs improved infrastructure. Can you confirm that you'd provide the necessary upfront funding to improve the transport hub at Harrow Town Centre - including step-free access at Harrow On The Hill Station; refurbishment of the station and redevelopment of the Bus Station?

TfL has recently commenced investigations into the comprehensive redevelopment/ refurbishment of Harrow Underground and bus stations. As part of TfL’s new property development vision, this work will draw upon LUL’s proposal for Step-Free-Access; London Buses’s increased capacity requirements; the local authority’s “Heart of Harrow” initiative; whilst collaborating with adjacent developers and land owners.

Harrow-on-the-Hill has been identified as a station that could benefit from the new TfL £75m affordable step-free access fund announced in October 14. This funding will need to be combined with match funding contributions from local councils and property developers to help unlock large numbers of new accessible journeys.

TfL recently completed a feasibility study to look at options for improving accessibility at Harrow-on-the-Hill, which was part funded by Harrow Council. TfL believes they have found a feasible solution involving the installation of five lifts (three to the platforms and two either side of the overbridge to and from street level). Any refurbishment works would be carried out to tie in with step-free improvements.

Harrow Council is currently investigating potential match funding opportunities.
