The decision to close any TfL station is not taken lightly. Tufnell Park Tube station will be temporarily closed for a period of nine months on safety grounds, not cost. Customers who choose to take the bus to nearby Archway or Kentish Town will be making an additional £1.50 bus journey with pay as you go (Oyster or contactless) that they would not have had to take had Tufnell Park Tube station remained open.

TfL estimates administrative costs of around £35,000 for setting up and managing the refund process. This will be absorbed in to the programme costs for the temporary closure, but remains a small cost within the overall savings.
