Question

The Low Pay Commission 2014 noted that there was considerable variation in the duration of apprenticeships, with apprenticeships in England at the lower end of the spectrum. The researchers estimated average apprenticeship durations of between 36-48 months in the majority of countries compared with a typical duration of 12-30 months in England. Do you collect data on the duration of apprenticeships in London to ensure that young Londoners are receiving good quality apprenticeships? If not, will you consider collecting this information?

I do not collect data on the duration of apprenticeships. I do however support the recent changes made to ensure that apprenticeships must be a minimum of one year to ensure apprentices are given sufficient time to fully acquire skills and be confident in applying them.
