Question

The Sutton Trust recently released a report which analysed the higher and further education destinations of young people in London. The report noted that there is great inequality of outcome across London by local area and type of school. Given your involvement in London's HE and FE sectors, for example through the LEP, what action are you taking to reduce this inequality and give all young Londoners the chance to succeed in their aspirations?

My team is working the with LEP to develop a capacity building programme for London schools under the new 2014-20 European Strategy Investment Framework to help schools and colleges develop effective careers guidance strategies. This will include building effective links with universities and making better use of destination measures, which were introduced by government in 2012.

My London Schools Excellence Fund projects include examples of innovative school and university partnerships, which will be evaluated and the learning shared across London's schools later in 2015. My Gold Club programme shares the exceptional practice of schools achieving excellent academic outcomes for all pupils, including the most disadvantaged.
