Question

According to the UK Energy Research Centre's (UKERC) recent report on the future of gas in the UK, Minister's claims of lower prices and greater energy security from UK shale gas were "hype", "lacking in evidence" and "misleading the public".  Given your repeated advocacy of shale gas (and dismissal of environmental concerns) what is your response to these findings?

As I have already said I am receptive to any ideas that help keep the lights on and the energy bill down in London, and this means having a diverse mix of energy sources, so long as they comply with relevant planning and environmental regulations for their safe extraction.

If UK shale gas can make a positive contribution to these objectives, by providing heat and power, then I think we should investigate how this resource can be safely exploited.
