TfL is progressing with plans to modernise the Bakerloo, Central, Piccadilly and Waterloo & City lines with the next generation of Tube train, which will come into service from the mid-2020s.

The trains will be designed to be capable of the highest level of automation as seen in the best metros around the world. TfL currently envisages keeping a member of staff on board the train and the specific roles and responsibilities of staff members operating in this higher level of automation will continue to be subject to extensive engagement with customers, stakeholders and staff over the years to come.
