In my refreshed VAWG strategy I commit to ensuring that the provisions of the new Modern Slavery Bill are implemented and to support campaigns that raise awareness of trafficking and modern day slavery among third parties.

My office for policing and crime, MOPAC, is one of the nine members of the European Communities against Trafficking partnership which held and event at City Hall on 8th December entitled "Effective Partnerships to Combat Human Trafficking: Local Solutions to a Global Problem" in order to explore how best to address the complex nature of trafficking and slavery not just in London but across many national and international borders. Work around this is ongoing.

The Commissioner and His Excellency Cardinal Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster, lead the Santa Marta Group, which is an alliance of international police chiefs dedicated to combatting modern slavery. The Commissioner recently met with the Pope at a Santa Marta Group Conference at the Vatican to discuss how human trafficking can better be tackled internationally using the combined resources of international police forces and the Catholic Church.
