Please find attached as Appendix E a spreadsheet containing Serious Youth Violence (SYV) offences broken down as requested. Across London there was a significant reduction in Serious Youth Violence in 2012/13 (a reduction of 1,923 offences from the previous year of 2011/12), however, there was an increase of 909 offences in 2013/14. In April 2013, the Metropolitan Police Service aligned itself to Home Office recording guidelines, which may be linked to this increase.

Whilst this increase is of concern, the latest year ending November 2014 figure of 5,975 remains significantly lower than the 2011/12 figure of 6,901. The Commissioner set out his plans to respond to this increase at a MOPAC Challenge earlier this year.

Serious Youth Violence is a key priority for both the Metropolitan Police Service and myself, and in June I launched the London Crime Reduction Board's Strategic Ambitions for London: Gangs and Serious Youth Violence. This continues our focus on prevention, intervention and enforcement.
