On 22nd November 2014 there were technical issues with the 101 non-emergency number. This was a national issue and did not just affect the London area.

The Metropolitan Police Service directed members of the public to alternative ways of contacting the police and reporting crimes.

Quick identification of the loss of the system enabled the MPS to introduce telephony interventions; text messaging was suspended and staff profiles were amended to reflect call volume.  As a result the MPS maintained service levels throughout the day.
