Question

I have been asked to put the following question to you by a resident of Woodberry Down:

"As you are aware, an application has been made to narrow the Woodberry Down stretch of Seven Sisters Road from six lanes to four (in keeping with the Haringey and Islington stretches of the road). Can you tell me what modelling has been carried out by TfL regarding the impact that the proposed narrowing will have on traffic and congestion in the area and what conclusions have been drawn as a result of this modelling?"

The proposal to narrow Seven Sisters Road from six lanes to four, which is part of the Woodberry Down estate development, has been modelled by the developer (Berkeley Homes) in support of their planning application. The results of this traffic modelling indicate some significant negative impacts to traffic and bus movements.

A working group has therefore been established comprising TfL, Hackney Council and the developer, to review whether the proposed road layout can be amended to reduce the negative impacts on traffic and buses whilst still delivering the benefits of making the road easier to cross for pedestrians.
