The London Plan policies have played a role in supporting the delivery of green infrastructure, including green roofs and walls in strategic schemes across London. The benefits of some of these green roofs have been to mitigate the urban heat island effect, address surface water run-off, improve biodiversity, provide space for food growing and provide amenity space.

This year, for the first time I have monitored the delivery of green roofs in the Central Activity Zone (CAZ) in line with London Plan policy 5.10. This initial monitoring of the CAZ showed that between 2007 and 2013 just over 50% of all applications included a green roof.  I am investigating the potential to monitor the delivery of green roofs across all of London as part of the monitoring for sustainable urban drainage measures.
