Question

As the Mayor will know, by 2016 - as a result of reductions in central funding - The Royal Parks may be required to generate 75% of its own income. Would the Mayor agree with me that a London-wide public debate in 2015 might help The Royal Parks to meet the challenge of finding ways of generating about £20 million or more a year so that, with robust and resilient income streams, we can continue to conserve and enhance the natural and built environment, and to respect and enrich the historic landscape and biodiversity of our world-renowned Royal Parks, for the benefit of diverse audiences and future generations?

The Royal Parks already do an excellent job at raising 66% of their funding through commercial activity such as hosting world classevents like the concerts in Hyde Park, the London Marathon, Tour de France, RideLondon etc. My team are working closely with The Royal Parks to identify further sustainable commercial income streams. In addition to this Jeff Jacobs is sitting on a government committee exploring the freedom and flexibility of The Royal Parks to maximise on income generation, the outcome of which should be known later next year.
