A constituent has contacted me with concerns over the maintenance and operation of the 'Source London' electric vehicle charge point network after eight of her nearest nine charging points were unavailable due to technical faults. Can you confirm what steps you are taking to improve the availability of working car chargers for Londoners?

Since September 2014, the Source London scheme is being run by IER Bolloré. TfL appointed IER Bolloré as the new operator of Source London to secure the future of the scheme and ensure its long-term success without the need for ongoing public subsidy. IER Bolloré has a proven track record in the electric vehicle technology market through schemes such as Autolib in Paris.

In certain cases IER Bolloré's ability to secure network performance is being limited by a small number of charge point service providers. These providers are responsible for maintenance services and in some areas this is leading to higher levels of unavailable charge points.  With the support of TfL, IER Bolloré is currently negotiating with the London boroughs and charge point service providers to introduce new maintenance processes to improve maintenance service levels and reduced fault resolution times.

In the longer-term, IER Bolloré has an ambition to expand the charge point network to 6,000 by 2018 to meet the growing needs of plug-in vehicle owners.
